What They Envisioned – Mis-education Has Secured

When the political leaders wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence they stated:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

It is evident that these leaders meant affluent white males when penning this document and when signing the Constitution of the United States thirteen years later.

And, while many fought and died to change the intent of the language with the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to include every American, mis-education has returned the language to its original intent.

This argument is supported by the fact that only 23% of the registered Democrats in Rochester voted in the Democratic Primary. Of those, the majority voted for the incumbents without knowing or understanding their political views, ideologies, or standings on the issues.

As well, since there is only one non-Democrat running for an elected position there is little choice to vote against the “status-quo”.

Thomas Jefferson said, “Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories. And to render them safe, their minds must be improved to a certain degree.”

We have seen the degeneration of our government in the recent shut down and in the refusal of our leaders in education to listen to their constituents.

For the sake of our children and our country, we must change our current system of education so that it concentrates on providing an excellent education to every child.
