Welcome Metro Justice

The local civil rights group F.I.G.H.T. and the Green Party of Monroe County is pleased to welcome original group Friends of F.I.G.H.T., now known as Metro Justice, in joining the effort to replace Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E) with a public utility in the City of Rochester.

The not announced change in strategy by Metro Justice came as a welcomed surprise by members of the F.I.G.H.T./Green Party coalition as it was just a few days ago the Executive Council of Metro Justice told the coalition that they would not be working with us due to their hurt feelings.

The announcement of their event at the University of Rochester touting their vision of such a public utility in the City of Rochester came as news to everyone who has been following their insistence on spending their hard-earned grant money from NY Renews on a public utility at the County level.  We appreciate an organization that is able to recognize a mistake and correct it after only 6 or so years.  We are fully confident that when the public utility in Rochester is achieved there will be other grants to help finance Metro Justice’s activities.

As we all know, local Green Party candidates have been running on a platform plank of such a public utility in the City of Rochester since 2009, and even though we’ve had discussions about combining forces just within the past year, it’s encouraging to see that a little push from friends of Friends of F.I.G.H.T. at their recent campaign rally for Senate candidates from downstate brought us working on the same goal: A Public Utility in the City of Rochester!

Welcome to the F.I.G.H.T. Metro Justice!  We can’t wait to see what else you bring to the table other than pizza.
