Democratic City Councilmember and Public Safety Chair Adam McFadden will hold a public hearing to discuss solutions to the City’s open air drug markets. He will be seeking public input on his proposed legislation for Drug Free Zones, which would give the Police Chief a blank check to sweep the streets.
The Green Party views this proposed legislation as ripe for abuse through it's unconstitutional attack on City residents' freedom of assembly. It also does little to address the root issues behind the underground drug trade, and unfairly targets communities of colors, further fueling the cradle-to-prison pipeline. We urge the community to express their disapproval of this proposal by attending the hearing, as well as communicating with Councilmember McFadden through phone or email.
